GHD Gold S7N261 & S7N421 Max
This generation of GHDs were launched in 2018 (S7N261) & 2021 (S7N421)
Correct operation is as follows:
- Plug in to the mains socket. - Beep tone and the on/off button flashes briefly.
- Press the on/off button for 2 seconds to power them on. Beep tone and the on/off button starts to pulse on and off.
- Ready for use - Beep tones. The on/off button is illuminated continuously.
- Press and hold the on/off button for a few seconds to turn the irons off.
Faults found on the GHD Gold S7N261 & S7N421 Max
These models incorporate comprehensive protection circuitry. Most faults will trigger the error detailed below.
"Squeal" error sound after plugging in
About 10 seconds after plugging the irons in to the mains socket the on/off switch flashes red and a sound like a squeal will be heard. This will repeat every 15 seconds or so.
Faults found to cause this error are;
- Thermal fuse failure.
- Element failure.
- Thermistor Failure.
- Broken wires that lead to the thermistors.
- Broken wires that lead to the elements.
- Loose wire/wires in any of the push fit terminals.
"Squeal" error sound during use
The irons turn on and heat up normally. Shortly after reaching the correct temperature, possibly whilst you are actually using the irons, the on/off switch flashes red and you hear a squeal like sound. This will repeat every 15 seconds or so.
Faults found to cause this error are;
- Broken wires that lead to the elements.
- Broken wires that lead to the thermistor.
- Loose wire/wires in any of the push fit terminals.
Switch off during use
The irons turn on and heat up normally. During use they switch off. Pressing the on/off button may bring them back on again. This repeats as the irons are moved around.
Mains cable is damaged causing intermittant loss of the mains supply to the irons. See the video below for details of how to replace the cable.
Dead. No sounds or on/off button illumination.
PCB fault. Faulty ARM Cortex Microprocessor.
Short circuit on any part of the ARM Cortex peripheral circuitry.
Please note that software at the factory is used to adjust values stored in the ARM Cortex Flash memory to cater for variations in the values of each element and thermistor.
Fitting a replacement element or PCB may introduce a mismatch and cause the irons to operate at a lower or higher temperature than expected.
