GHD blown PCB

Postby cerlius » 24 Jan 2011, 07:47

While in thailand we were able to jam our australian power sockets into their power points. However on one occassion my mate put it in the wrong way around and broke my MS 4.0 GHD. I have since opened it to discover the Switch Side PCB had been destroyed and found the light blue component was black and had dislodged itself from the board. I have now purchased a replacement switch side PCB and installed it in the old ones place. however it is still not working. I measured the R8 Resistor and got 100 ohm reading and the thermal fuse is reading at 1.0 ohm. I also measured the incoming power on the PCB and recieve a reading of 240ish volts so ive rulled out the cable. Is it possible that the non-switch side PCB is also damaged or am i on the wrong track?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ron,

It's hard to say what might have happened. Someone on another thread just suggested that the microprocessor can fail if it is subjected to funny voltages and that's on the non switch side, so maybe you need to replace both PCBs.
