Pink GHDs 4.2P

Postby sethcathison » 28 Sep 2014, 18:07

The wife's GHDs are totally dead.
I have repaired her old 3.1 ghds in the past so i decided to strip these pink ones down.

first thing i tested was R11 and R8
they both give a reading of 50.8 and 50.7 ohms.
next up i stripped down the heater on the switch side

Image

when i touch the terminals at 1 i get 0.L on the multimetter
when i touch the terminals at 2 I get a reading of 62 ohms

The heater on the non switch side seems to be solderd onto the board on the middle pins marked NTC

Image

When i touch the screws at 3 i get 0.L on the multimeter
when i touch the gold terminals at 4 i cant get a constant reading on the multimeter, sometimes its at 0.L ive seen it go as high as 170k ohms and as low as 3m ohms.

so based on the info, what should my next step be?
is there anything else i could test before i start buying spare parts?

Cheers

Hi,

The heater on the non switch side has failed. That means the control system has not detected any temperature rise on the thermistor (the NTC soldered connections) and so has over heated the switch side and tripped the thermal fuse.

Therefore you need:
- New thermal fuse - http://www.ghd-repair.co.uk/shop/thermal_fuse
- New heater with thermistor - http://www.ghd-repair.co.uk/shop/new_70 ... thermistor

Or send them to us for repair!

Gary

thanks for the quick reply. i take it that a repair myself would involve soldering then?
I'll probably just send them to you if it is, would the price be £24.94 for this repair?
These are genunie GHDs.

cheers

Yes - you would need to solder the thermistor.

The repair service would cover all the parts and fitting in the £24.94 fixed price.
