A common failure on the GHD Gold S7N261 and S7N421 Max is breakage of the solid wires leading from the PCB to the Element assembly.
This is due to constant slight flexing during normal use, this is common with solid wires.
The irons will flash red and sound the alarm tone. This may be intermittant.
With the correct parts and equipment these elements can be successfully repaired.
The Trade kit contains;
Four foot of 24 AWG multi strand tinned copper high temperature silicon covered wire. 600 Volts. -60 to 200 Degs C. Super flexible.
Four foot of silicon outer sleeves. 300 Degs C. 2mm Internal diameter. .5mm wall thickness.
A four foot piece of 300 Degs C solder.
Thoroughly clean all parts that are to be soldered.
Tin the ceramic plate ends of each wire with the 300 Deg C solder. Use normal solder to solder the wires to the PCB push fit terminals when you have finished.
Tin the pads on the ceramic element with 300 Degs C solder.
Offer up the tinned wire to the element and melt the solder with an iron at 450 Degs C. A Pre-heater may be required.
High temperature soldering equipment is required.
A pre-heater is likely to be required, set to around 180-200 Degs C
You will also need high temperature silicon sealant to cover the soldered connections once you have finished.
We advise you to solder all PCB wire push fit terminals during any repair.
You must use 300 Degs C solder. You must seal the soldered connections on the element with high temperature silicon sealant!
Most end users will not have the required skills or access to such equipment and I would recommend our GHD Gold & Max Repair Service instead.
