Intermittent Fault with GHD MS

My GHD MS just stopped working, mid-use, this morning after 12 years. The heat just dropped and the red LED was no longer lit. I tried turning it off and on again, but no joy.

I ordered myself a new pair of GHD's, but decided to try repairing the old ones to give them to my neice. So, I read up on some of you advice, opened them up and checked the wiring, and everything seemed good. Nothing has crumbled away, or come away. So, I just plugged them in and they are working again! So, now it's an intermittent fault. Any ideas on what could be causing it, and how to repair it?

I've attached a picture of the inside for reference.

With this model you have 2 choices, either a mains lead issue or one of the heater wires is broken both can cause this intermitant issue.

Many thanks

Do you hear any sparking/hissing noises if you move the cable? If you do, it could be the cable.

Try gently pulling on the wires going to the heater elements and see if any of them come off easily. If they do, it's an intermittent heater wire.
