Smoking plates

Postby Mel_blade » 13 Sep 2014, 14:21

I've used my ghd gold straighteners today and they have made a popping sound and then turned off. I have changed the fuse which has worked, on switching it back on however smoke and a burning smell came from one plate on the straightens, do you have any ideas what this might be and how I may be able to fix this?

I have had the straighteners since 2012 and never had any problems with them before!

Hi Melanie,

It sounds like they are now overheating. Perhaps a cable short took out the fuse and surged the electronics? I'd suggest checking the resistance of the cable whilst you wobble it (and between L and N to make sure there is not a short). Then check the heaters, thermal fuse and thermistor.

Let me know what you find and I can advise.

Or just send them in for repair:
