4.0B one plate cold

Postby Mondeo1 » 01 Oct 2012, 23:57

Hi,

I have a pair of 4.0B's from my sister, they were dead so I replaced R8, (I was trained to solder working for Marconi Avionics) so I know the solder joints are good. I noticed the heater with the thermisitor attached was cold, I removed the two screws and the heater gave a resistance, I pulled the two wires from the heater gently and they are attached.

Any ideas please??? :)

Hi,

Which side is not working? If only one side is heating up then that element has broken.

If it's the non switch side that is broken then there is a risk of them overheating and tripping the thermal fuse.

Hi Gary,

The plate that is cold is the side with the thermistor one it, I have just checked the resistance and I get a reading of 75.1 ohms from the heater on that side, so that would show that the heater isnt o/c?

Help ;)

Hi,
with what i have read and my experiences with this model change the heater, sometimes the break is so small that they will measure good when cold but as soon as you put the beans on they will go open circuit, thermal fuses like doing this too.
Normally one of the wires will break inside the sleeving but will still make contact and the pull test can look ok, try pulling while measuring the resistance.

Many thanks
Kevin

Hi,

Just replaced the heater/Thermistor assembly with a new one and still it does not heat up :(

I had replaced R8 first of all.

Hi,
There is one other thing that it could be but i have never know this.....ever, there is a section of track from connector Neutral safe and heaterB, if there is no connection between them then the top heater would not work.
I am still presuming its switching on ok and bottom heater is heating.

Many thanks
Kevin
