GHD OVERHEATING PLEASE HELP

Postby danedwards49 » 28 Aug 2011, 21:22

Hi i am trying to fix my girlfriends ghd's. the thermal fuse blew so i replaced it and it blew again straight away so then i by passed the fuse and measured the temperature which was well above 300 degrees and the plates have melted the plate holders i have tried adjusting the temperature i have set it at 10 ohms (min) and 355 ohms (max) but the plates still will not drop below 300 degrees the resistance of the heaters are 95 ohms and i have also tried new plates but still too hot.
any advice would be a big help.
cheers dan

Hi Dan,

You don't seem to have any temperature control and hence they are overheating.

Has the Triac gone short so the heaters are on all the time? Have you wired them back up correctly?

I have some with the same problem, adjusting the pot doesn't seem to work. What is the triac?

Cheers

Hi,

If you are not familier with electronics then I would not recommend trying to replace the triac. I'd suggest sending them off for repair:

Hi Gary, I looked at the underside of the PCB and found the Traic, it is indeed blown to shreads!

I have been trying to locate one, but having no luck on RS or Farnell, I have only found one on eBay but it is expensive at about 6 quid - do you sell them?

Thanks

Hi,

The triacs don't normally fail so we do not stock them. We only have the complete pcb:
