Ghd's not heating as they should?

Ghd's not heating as they should?

Postby vampyra » 11 Feb 2010, 17:35

Hi there

Hoping someone can help as to what is wrong with my GHD's and what part needs replacing.
Basically GHD's turn on fine beep once when turned on and beep twice when ready to be used - which is usually pretty quick.
However i don't feel like they are heating up as much as they should. They straighten my hair but not as well as GHD's should. My sister tried her GHD's on my hair a few days ago and it turned out lovely and smooth and straight.

As i said they do heat up but not as much as they should it appears??

Anyone got any ideas?

Hi,

The temperature control on the 4.0's is done via a thermistor, so it should be pretty accurate. I've heard of problems with the thermistor that causes them to get too hot, but never too cool.

Have you checked they are genuine GHDs?

Yes they are genuine.

Is there not anyway the thermistor could be faulty?

Normally thermistors either work or are open circuit. The only thing that could possibly be wrong is that the thermistor is not soldered in very well.

The thermistor should read 100kohms at 25 degC. If it's more than this, then it could be a soldering problem.

You could try measuring the resistance with a multimeter and seeing if it looks right, or simply resolder the thermistor connections to ensure there is a good connection.
